Stheno is a figure from Greek mythology and was one of the three Gorgon sisters, along with her sisters Medusa and Euryale. She was considered the eldest and most powerful of the three sisters, and her name means “the strong” or “the unyielding”.
Stheno and her sisters were famous for their terrifying appearance, with snakes for hair and the power to turn anyone who looked at them into stone. In some versions of mythology, they are also considered protectors of the goddess Athena.
Stheno also appears in various works of art and literature, including the famous poem “Ode to a Nightingale” by John Keats, in which he describes her as “a twisted snake upon the ground.”
