Virgil Finlay (July 23, 1914-January 1971) was an American illustrator of science fiction, fantasy and horror magazines.
He began publishing his drawings in Weird Tales in 1935. His realistic style and use of textures made him immediately noticed. In 1938 he worked with the staff of The American Weekly under the direction of Abraham Merritt.
After serving in World War II, he drew for numerous pulps, science fiction and astrology magazines. He died just before the first publication of the collection of his work.
