Jim Burns, born April 10, 1948 in Cardiff, is a Welsh science fiction painter and illustrator.
In 1966 he joined the Royal Air Force to become a pilot. Because of the selection criteria he had to leave the army to take a new direction.
He enrolled in the Newport School of Art for a year of training. Jim then went to St. Martin’s School of Art in London and after three years he graduated in Art and Design.
In 1987, 1995 and 2005 he received the Hugo award for best professional artist.
Burns worked with Ridley Scott on Blade Runner. He has illustrated several book covers such as the Venus Prime series by Arthur C. Clarke & Paul Preuss or River of Gods by Ian McDonald (writer), Robert Silverberg, Ray Bradbury, Peter F. Hamilton, Greg Bear, Kate Elliott, S. Andrew Swann, Dave Duncan, Jack McDevitt…
